What can i say about these two? Jane is possibly the most positive and enigmatic person I’ve met.  She’s stunningly gorgeous, smart and bubbly.  Dallas is laid back, conscientious and as Jane describes ‘wise beyond his years’. Being a year younger than her in school made it nearly impossible for them to connect in high school.  They knew each other from living in the same neighbourhood in Summerland but didn’t officially connect until late one night after an evening of ‘clubbing in Penticton’.  Jane came home to log into MSN…oh yeah.. people…msn!!! you remember? Dallas was the only other person on at 3 a.m. so they got to flirting talking and he invited her to go quading with him the next day.  For the following 3 months the pair spent time fishing, hiking and quading together….proving that they were a match made in heaven.

Jane asked me if we could capture these two doing what they love to do the most….. hanging out in their backyard, drinking wine, playing with their dog and working out.  Cross-fit is their sport and it’s not for the faint of heart. Check out the chin-ups people! Can YOU DO A CHIN-UP?  I had so much fun with these two.

Tomorrow, Jane and Dalls will be up on the blog.  They are as cute as pie. Is pie cute? hmmm what a strange expression.

And I’ve also been working on a side project that is personal and close to my heart.  Starting June 29th I will be launching another personal website that will feature A PHOTO A DAY of my growing little girl. She turns two on June 29th so I wanted to document her entire year.  This was COMPLETELY inspired by Andrea Hanki’s ‘Lila was here’ blog.  I hummed and hawed over doing this.  I originally wanted to come up with something unique and special. Something that has never been done, but then I thought about it and realized that Izzy-Rae IS special and any project  I do of her WILL be completely unique. Plus, I didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to capture her at her most interesting age so far. Two to three, I’m told is the perfect year to do this.  She will be exploring more than ever and growing into a speaking, singing, little creature! I can’t wait.

I will say that I was unsure if I wanted to subject her to the constant photos. I certainly don’t want her to become too aware of what i’m doing.  So for the past week, I’ve been practicing taking photos of her every day.  And what I’m doing is literally, pulling out the camera for 1 minute… snapping a couple shots and putting the camera FAR away…. I don’t want this to become about ‘faking’ pretty shots or making our life seem more glamorous then it is.  I want to document our days…. for a year.  And hopefully along the way, we’ll find ourselves enjoying some pretty great activities because of it.

Now, I have done this before…and I didn’t stick to it.  But the idea was a photo a day of ANYTHING…. it just wasn’t concrete enough for me. This is going to be something I realllllllly want to do for Izzy-Rae so you can bet I will stick to it.  You can HOLD ME TO IT! IF I DON’T….i promise to stand on my head, balancing a bowl of popcorn on my feet! For…..30 minutes

Mother’s day was great.

Families have dysfunction. That kinda blows, but oh well… it’s life. I wouldn’t have it any other way with mine. There’s a lot of love.

Dying to post pictures from the last couple sessions I’ve been working on alllll weeek, but they are secret sessions that must stay away from the blog for another couple months. eeks… keeping secrets is NOT my forte. haha

Sticky notes never stick long enough.

It’s warm outside and I feel like running through a sprinkler.

My to-do list looks like a bunch of circles scattered on a page and check-marks galore.

the dentist is so nice. i don’t like the news he gave me. i don’t want to go back today. i’m an adult. i’m not supposed to have a cavity. i googled all the reasons why I would be getting them at this age. I brush my teeth for goooooodness sake.

why does google not have all the answers?

My girl is growing up. She told me to “go away!” this morning and when I gasped she repeated it louder and laughed. ha! The trick is : pretend you didn’t hear it in the first place and she won’t know how it affected you. I never follow my own advice.

I love how she is pushing her boundaries though.  She sees how far she can take it and then comes in for a kiss. She’s a character.

It’s my step-daughter, Alisha’s birthday this week. She is turning the age I feel. That’s scary. Happy Birthday, Li li.

Off to work on a session that I WILL be able to post. yay!

We have summer dresses, people. We want to start wearing them.

it’s been a busy month of shooting…what can i say?

The day has officially arrived.

Thanks to Sean at Movement Designs for not only creating the new site, but for also helping me to weed through my artistic brain to get at how I’m really wanting to represent myself on the web.  I first contacted Sean and said..”I want my new site to look  clean, yet scribbly….trendy, yet not… I want it to be organized, but fun”.  And then the next week I’d change my mind and say I’d want it to be super minimalistic only to change my mind again and say I wanted it to have lots of goodies allll over the place.

Until I could see something on the screen in front of me, I didn’t know what I wanted.  So once we got the ball rolling and I was able to yay or nay this and that…. we really found what works. Yay….!

It turns out I’m quite a control freak, but I have to say that in delegating the design process to someone else, I learned alot about myself and I was happily surprised with the outcome of certain things I NEVER would of have thought to do on my own. Thanks Sean! And congrats again to you and your wife on the birth of your daughter!! They just had a baby girl 2 weeks ago, in the midst of our crazy design crunch. I was getting emails from the hopsital! Wow, technology.

Now…there is actually a moment in here where I’m talking but words don’t make sentences and only dogs can understand the point I’m trying to make. After seeing this, I can now understand why my film instructor at theatre school said “you’re tooooo much for the camera…you need to move your face less” hahahaha! So awesome. And heck, with all the things I don’t like about myself on camera…I know my Mommy loves them so I’m just embracing it. We live once, people! Once! This is it! : )

Special shout out to my big bro, Richard aka…ricki , for lending me a swanky loft to shoot in. Holla to the cool bro!

And thanks to my TALENTED friend and actress, Ali Liebert for hooking me up with my-fellow-oprah-lover-and-seeker-of-good-things Make-Up artist, Amy Van Wormer.  She trudged her tool kit down the streets of East Van to get to my place early in the morning.  She applied my make-up and thankfully fixed my hair for me. haha That’s another story altogether.  Amy is big time, peeps.

And last, but certainly not least…thanks to Mckenzie and Nick for being sooooo flippin’ adorable as my ‘couple’ in the shoot.  They agreed to be a part of this without any expectations what so ever.  I met them literally 10 minutes before they said “action!”. They were more perfect than perfect and I have a crush on them both. For realz.

I think this video does a great job at representing exactly what I’m all about.  And really…I DO laugh this much on a shoot. Go check it.

These two are so cooky and fun.  We cold barely get through the session with a straight face…And that’s perfect!! I love it when’s it’s this easy to have a good time with a couple.
